Brasserie ‘t Binnenhofje, Oosterhout

Brasserie ’t Binnenhofje is located in the Heilig Hartkerk. In 1881, the Jesuit fathers built the Heilig Hartkerk in Oosterhout. Less than a century later, in 1972, the church had to close due to declining visitor numbers. After the demolition of the nave and rear structure, only the façade and tower remained in 1974. In that part, the silence centre, the associated shop ’t Winkeltje, and Wereldwinkel were established.

In the 1980s, Frans van der Leeuw devised a plan for the vacant plot of land behind the tower: that is where the Binnenhofje will be, which opened in 1987. The building materials were mostly sourced from demolition works, and all the stones had to be chipped away one by one. Some niches from the side walls of the church have been preserved and can still be seen in a few shops.

Now it is a beautiful historical place to enjoy a lovely lunch or a cup of coffee or tea with something sweet. In the winter months, you can sit comfortably in our cosy brasserie, and as soon as the sun starts to shine again, we have a lovely terrace in the Binnenhofje itself.
