Lighthouse 't Lage Licht, Westkapelle

The first stone of the iron tower was laid in 1874. A year later, the lighthouse was operational. This remarkable tower has several names: Noorderhoofd (named after the point where the tower stands), the ‘iezderen torentje’ (in the dialect of Westkapelle), and ’t Lage Licht. The last name is used in shipping and is directly related to the otherlighthouse ’t Hoge Licht.Together, these two lighthouses form the landmark at sea for ships: there lies Westkapelle. The tower is 16 metres high and has 4 floors. The lighthouse is still in use but has gained a new function since 2017: lighthouse museum.
