Dike and War Museum, Westkapelle

At the Polderhuis, history comes to life, the sea is within reach, you can view beautiful exhibitions and participate in fun activities and events. Enjoy in the Museum cafΓ© or on the terrace with coffee and treats or take it to the next level and climb all the steps of the Mondriaan tower!
Westkapelle β The Polderhuis Musea & more on Zuidstraat has become an Experience Museum. As soon as you step inside, you will be amazed. After a major renovation last year, the museum, which first opened its doors in 2004, has been expanded and redesigned. The exhibition as it was, is no longer recognisable in the current setup.
For everyone!
It is important that cultural heritage is preserved and that young people take an active role in cultural life. But it is also important that activities are offered in which everyone can feel at home, regardless of their faith community, regardless of age. The Polderhuis takes this seriously, the Polderhuis is for everyone and everyone can find a place in our organisation.
In the exhibition 7 centuries of dike, you can see how the dike and coastline of Westkapelle have changed since the year 600. On the same floor, you can see works by Albert DeprΓ©, a French artist who made a round trip through the Netherlands in 1907 and captured it in paintings and photographs. The works from that trip have been loaned to the museum for a one-time exhibition by his family.

The sub-exhibition war is about Westkapelle and the price the village paid for liberation. An allied bombing destroyed the dike and flooded the island of Walcheren to liberate it. It is a journey through time with previously untold stories from the relatives of deceased residents. Through stories, videos, and listening horns, the story of Westkapelle is told in a personal and impressive way.
For children, there are treasure hunts and of course, the whole family can visit the lighthouses βt Lage Licht and βt Hoge Licht. There you can see how a former lighthouse keeper lived and where he slept.

Goede info. Ook voor Brabant een les in nederigheid. Brabant was al bevrijd, maar geen aanvoer van materialen. Schelde moest geopend worden voor een grote prijs.
